Of Kalamazoo Jim passed away Wednesday morning, March 18, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1938 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Lewis and Lois Baker Kaake. Jim was employed by Kalamazoo Public Schools for 32 years until his retirement in 2000. On February 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Barbara Eaton in Plainwell. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to Car Shows and admired the classic 1900-1940 original model automobiles. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Barbara Kaake; 6 children, Charles Conklin of Allegan, Ann Larry Starring of Fennville, Laura Dave Schultz of Casa Grande, AZ, Brenda Kaake-Anzueto of Grand Rapids, Kathy Mike Schlubatis Kaake of Three Rivers, and Carla Richard Moore of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Teresa, Tonia, Ashley, Nigel, and Diana; 7 great-grandchildren, Jazmyne, Angela, Krystal, Elizabeth, Catherine, Michelle, and Natalie; his twin sister, Janit Ernest Guess of Kalamazoo; and 4 nephews. Funeral services for Jim will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Pastor Sean Niestrath officiating.
