HUIZINGA, James S. Went to be with his Lord on October 11, 2007 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Jim was born March 18, 1930 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of John and Dorothy Herrema Huizinga and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for the past 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was employed for 40 years at several West Michigan Mechanical Contractors. He sang with The King?s Choraliers for 35 plus years and was a member of the Fourth Reformed Church. Meeting him in heaven are his parents and 2 brothers, Tom and Ted Huizinga and a sister Julia Harkes. On November 25, 1949, he was married to the former Holles Elhart, who survives. Also surviving are 8 children, Cheryl Larry Stratton of Richland, Douglas Liga Purins Huizinga of Mesa, AZ, Barbara Tom Visker of Elkhart, IN, Michael Huizinga of Henderson, NV, Marci Darrel Bushhouse of Portage, Patricia Fred Miller of Mattawan, Susan David Haas of Plainwell and Phillip Huizinga of Richland; 17 grandchildren, Jeffrey Stratton, Wendi Eddie Mason, Heather Stratton, Ingrid Huizinga, Jennifer Rich Poynor, Jason Huizinga, Matt, Steve and Becki Visker, Mary Courtney Huizinga and Beau Huizinga, Nicole Bushhouse, Mieke Bushhouse, Holly Miller, Hannah Miller, Jon Haas and Rachel Haas.; 4 great-grandchildren, Kierra Lovelace, Amberle Stratton and Eli and Caleb Mason; 6 brothers and sisters, Marv Carolynn Huizinga of Grand Rapids, Mary Jim Haagsma of Grand Rapids, Donald Lucy Huizinga of Ada, Bill Donna Huizinga of Washington, Lucille Don Kuiper of Lansing and Margaret Ron Vredeveld of Clare; sister-in-law Betty Huizinga of Connecticut and a brother-in-law Edward Harkes of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services with military honors will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 o?clock Saturday at Fourth Reformed Church, 6339 Atlantic with the Rev. Dr. Jack Doorlag and the Rev. William Huyser officiating. Friends may meet the family today from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. and from 1 ? 2 pm on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Jim?s memory be made to Lending Hands, Hospice of S. W.
