Heighton, James E., Sr.
of Climax James Elbert Heighton was born February 7, 1942, in Kalamazoo, the son of Elbert and Stella Micheau Heighton; and passed away December 8, 2011, in Kalamazoo. Jim was a lifelong area resident and had served in the U.S. Army. For many years he was employed with the James River Corp, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Comstock VFW Post 6252, American Legion Post, National Rifle Association, and several other organizations. Surviving are his three sons, Steve Tracy Heighton of Galesburg, James Kelli Heighton, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, and Brent Camie Heighton of Comstock; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Dave Potgiesser; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bill and Joyce. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, December 11 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 12 at Kalamazoo Community Church 2435 North 26th Street. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Borgess Brain & Spine Institute.
