EVANS, James R. Sr.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. James was born May 30, 1921 in Muncie, IN., to the late Walter E. and Rosa L. Stone Evans. James was united in marriage to Frances Dyksterhouse on January 19, 1943 in Kalamazoo. James served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during WWII in the South Pacific from 1942 until honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of Second Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. He was employed as a U.S. Postal Carrier for 27 years until his retirement. A musician, he was a member of the Kalamazoo Male Chorus for 65 years and a bass player in the Harmonichords, where they entertained many nursing homes and churches. Surviving James Sr. is his wife of 65 years, Frances; children, James R. Jr. Lauri Evans of Liverpool, NY and David Beverly Evans of Charlotte, NC; 6 grandchildren, Katie Evans, Carrie Johnson, Brian Arra, David Arra, Paul Evans and Mark Evans; 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert Evans; brothers, Charles Vivian Evans, John Harriet Evans, William Barbara Evans and George Muriel Evans. Visitation will be Monday, May 5th from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, 1:00PM at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Dr., Kalamazoo, Rev. Ralph Robrahn, officiating. A private burial will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Second Reformed Church, to the choir or to a charity of one's choice.
