ECKERT, James A.
of Kalamazoo Eckert, Mr. James A., age 68, of Kalamazoo, MI, died Monday morning, May 13, 2013 in Kalamazoo. He was born May 31, 1944 in Speed, Indiana, the son of Charles and Mary Littleton Eckert. During the Vietnam War, he served in Germany with the U.S. Army. James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois Clouse Eckert on January 30, 2011; and 2 brothers, David and Bobby Eckert. He is survived by 3 children, Robert Gail Fisher of Plymouth, Indiana; Cheryl Bruce Hopkins of Grayslake, Illinois; and Christina Scott Shepard of Portage. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Jena Lovelace, Michael Fisher, Kyle McKim, Zachary Hopkins, Sara Hopkins, Madison Shepard and Mason Shepard; 5 great-grandchildren, Nikolas Fisher, Austin Fisher, Miranda Cole, Westin Outlaw Fisher, Braedyn Marshall Lovelace; a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Pat Eckert of Sellersburg, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 at Langeland Family Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, Indiana at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Diabetes Association.
