James Alan Doxey, Sr., age 82, passed away on Sunday May 29, 2016 at his home. He was born on August 9, 1933 in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Clarence and Tillie (Slater) Doxey and had been a lifelong area resident. James served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He retired from the Upjohn Company in 1992. James put his family first and enjoyed years of camping in the U.P. with his wife, children and grandchildren. James was involved in all of children's sporting activities and enjoyed working in his yard. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clare and Paul. On August 11, 1956 he married the former Ruth I. Buell who survives. Also surviving are four children, Cindy (Tim) Sharp of Kalamazoo, Robert (Gloria) Doxey of Climax, James (Peggy) Doxey, Jr. of Paw Paw and Robyn (Rich Dinse) Doxey of Portage; ten grandchildren, Dustin (Lainey) Sharp, Dezirae (Jim) Boer, Timothy (Betsy) Geddings Nicole (Dustin) Lindsey, Shannon (Nathan) Everdeen, Amanda (Nathan) DeMaso, Devon Doxey, Evan Doxey, Chris (Carrie) Dugan and Kevin (Kaylee) Dugan; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Doxey; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2nd from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where services will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 1 PM, with Pastor Cary Grant, officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
