Formerly of Estero, FL Jim passed away Friday evening, February 22, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born July 11, 1917 in Kalamazoo, to the late John and Maude VanderWeele Benzenberg. On June 5, 1939, Jim was united in marriage to Irene H. Smith. He was employed by Clausing Inc. formerly Atlas Press Co. in Kalamazoo, then Orthopedic Equipment Co. in Warsaw, Indiana, until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement, they moved to Florida where they resided for 22 years, until moving back to Kalamazoo in 2007. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Irene Benzenberg; their 3 children, Judith Leonard Grabowski of Vicksburg, Robert Diana Benzenberg of Holland, and Mark Benzenberg of Estero, FL; 5 grandchildren, Julie Grabowski, Robert Sherry Grabowski, Joseph Grabowski, Kristin Rich Vanpraet, and Erin Benzenberg; and 3 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jenna, and Fallon. Preceding him in death were his parents; and 1 brother, Donald Benzenberg. Memorial services for Mr. Benzenberg will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at The Fountains at Bronson Place, 1700 Bronson Way, Kalamazoo, with Jim's nephew Rev. John Smith officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family on Monday tomorrow from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
