BAUMAN, James Albert Jim
Of Climax Jim Bauman, age 83, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, January 5, 2008. Jim was born on November 2, 1924 in Climax Township, MI, the son of Samuel and Viola Hinkle Bauman. Following Viola?s death, Sam later married Audrey Fenwick who, along with her own three children, became a mother to Jim and his brother Bill. After graduating from Climax High School, Jim entered the United States Navy. After serving in WW II from 1943-46, he returned home to Climax and spent most of his life farming and working for the Wheeler Blaney Company as a sheet metal worker. Jim was united in marriage to Maxine Mae Rowley on April 21st, 1962, becoming a step father to Michael R. Hitchings Mike who he always considered to be like his own son. He and Maxine had two daughters, Kathy and Pam. Over the years, Jim had many passions. He had a love of farming and was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, watching Nascar racing, fishing, bowling and was a very active lifetime member of the Climax American Legion Post 465. Jim was a very kind hearted and generous man who was loved by all he met and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents; Samuel, Viola, Audrey; his wife, Maxine; his son, Mike; and siblings, Beatrice and William. Surviving are daughters Kathy Walt Zelichowski and Pam Tim Hoeksema; grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Zelichowski, Holly Hoeksema, Michele Beaver, Tammie Chad Bard, Michael C. Hitchings, Jamie Hitchings and several great grandchildren; siblings, Kaye Cousins, Kenneth Beverly Holcomb and James Holcomb; daughter-in-law Debbie Hitchings; a special niece, Kelly Jim Mezo, who was like a daughter; and several other nieces and nephews. A special thank you is expressed to Kelly Mezo, Bea Osborne, Kaye Cousins, Hospice of Southwest Michigan and our families for all their love and support during this difficult time. In accordance with Jim?s wishes, cremation has take place. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple St. where a Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday with Pastor James Dyke officiating. Memorials in Jim?s memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
