James E. Barnett

James E. Barnett, age 68, of Lawrence, died on June 15, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1956, in Winamac, Indiana, the son of Loss and Shirley (Hicks) Barnett. The family of seven children moved around but James found his forever home in Southwest Michigan. On April 22, 1974, he married Linda Chancellor and they raised their two sons in the SW Michigan area. Although James never finished school, he believed that practical knowledge was better than what he could learn in a classroom. This led to him owning and operating his own telecommunication business for the last 20 years, Barnett Cable Wisdom. James loved to travel, and his work took him across the country. At home he enjoyed mowing his lawn, visiting with family and friends, and relaxing with his dog, Stella. James was a salt of the earth man who never hesitated to help anyone. He was a man of Faith who led his family and work team. His family includes his wife, Linda Barnett; his sons: Darby (Margot) Barnett and Joshua Barnett; his grandsons: Austin Barnett and Truman Barnett; his sisters: Mary (Wayne) Mullins, Catherine Hale, Linda (Roland) Barnett Souther, and Fredia Gabbard; his brother, Richard (Julie) Barnett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Barnett. Friends may visit with his family on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 PM, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, where his funeral service will be held on Friday, June 21st, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Tom Langston officiating.
