James A. Koning

KONING, James A.
of Kalamazoo, MI Died December 20, 2008 in Kalamazoo. In February, 2008, Jim fractured his hip. He recovered,
however, in the past month he fractured his other hip and was unable to overcome the trauma. He was
born November 24, 1919 in Kalamazoo, to Henry and Elsie Keizer Koning. Jim was united in
marriage on July 18, 1942, to the former Pearl E. Walters "Peg", whom he provided patient and loving
care until her death in June of 2004. Jim was faithful member of several area churches including
Southern Heights Christian Reformed and Trinity Reformed where he served in many capacities such as
church elder, deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. For many years he was self employed
with a used car dealership. Surviving Jim are his children, Judith Sam VanTil of Crown Point, IN,
Janis William Malpass of Grand Rapids and James Diane Koning of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren
and 5 great grandchildren. The family expresses their appreciation to the Springs and the Inn at the
Fountains of Bronson Place for its caring and loving assistance, to Dr. David Christ who provided
extraordinary medical care and his friend and fellow church member, Paul DeBoer, who transported Jim
to church for the last few years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3rd, 3:00 p.m. at
Trinity Reformed Church, 326 W. Cork Street with his pastor, Reverend Jacques Nel officiating. A
private family committal service will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Arrangements by the Langeland
