Jacqueline M. Chapin, age 92 of Galesburg, died at Rose Arbor Hospice on January 23, 2025. She was born on December 24, 1932, in Prairieville Township, Michigan, the daughter of Alfred and Thelma (Day) Ball. Jacqueline was a resident of Galesburg since 1946. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951. On October 20, 1951, Jacqueline married James R. Chapin, Sr. and together they raised their five children.

Jacqueline was an avid gardener, cross-country skier and liked to write creative stories and cherished those about her years growing up. Along with her husband Jim, they were active members of the Galesburg Community. They volunteered at the Next Door Shelter, Kids Hope Program for elementary children, Gift of Jesus Shop a Christmas outreach, Kids Klub Ministry outreach which included sharing the Love of God in local neighborhoods. They were also involved in Meals on Wheels in Galesburg. In 2003, she spearheaded a program to send school supplies to Iraqi children during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her community involvement was honored in 2015, when a special tribute to her was held at the Galesburg Augusta Community Forum, thanking her for her many roles as a volunteer to build a healthy and caring community.

Since 1951, she was an active member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church. She was an adult Sunday School teacher for many years. Jacqueline loved to share the word of God and attended a Bible Study at River Manor Senior Residence Home for 9 years.

Above all, Jacqueline was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed activities with her family, whether they were traveling, canoeing or sharing a simple meal.

Her family includes her children: Mike Chapin, Jim (Diane) Chapin Jr., Nancy Squires, Linda (Steve) Rogers, and Dan (Mandy) Chapin; her grandchildren: Ryan (Andrea) Chapin, Erica Chapin, Alicia Chapin, Justin (Kym) Lebiecki, Lesley (Matt) Schofield, Kyle (Kelene) Rogers, Scott (Amy) Rogers, TaShanna (Jace) Barrera, Morgan Smead, Jamie (William) Talley, Andrea Clark, Glenn Allen, and Nicole (John) VanDyke; her great-grandchildren: Ava Rogers, Jackson Rogers, Canaan Rogers, Breckin Rogers, Maddox Chapin, Eliana Chapin, Rebekah Braley, Henry Schofield, Elliot Schofield, Theo Schofield, Elijah Ralph, Skye Ralph, and David VanDyke; and her cousin Bruce (Lisa) Wear.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim Chapin and her daughter-in-law Kathy Chapin.

Friends may visit with her family from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 W. Battle Creek St, Galesburg, MI 49053, where her service will be held at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Jim Chapin assisted by Pastor Ron Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Galesburg. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Galesburg United Methodist Church or the Galesburg UMC Food Pantry.
