Portage Passed away Friday, September 6, 2013. Jack was born January 22, 1926 in Avoca, IA, the son of the late John and Helen Sondergard. He was a resident of Portage for 45 years and worked as a sales representative for the Kirsch Company in Sturgis, MI for 23 years. Jack served in the United States Navy, was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was a devoted member of St. Michael Lutheran Church of Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Marianne Sondergard in 1996. Jack is survived by his wife, Marlene Sondergard; his children, Kathy Townsend of Old Say Brook, CT, John Rhonda Sondergard of Cedarburg, WI and Mark Dawn Sondergard of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Jacob Sondergard, Molly Blair, Megan Sondergard, Monica Stone, Elizabeth Townsend and Patrick Townsend; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Straat Eichelberger of Avoca, IA; a brother-in-law, Eugene March; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Dr., with Rev. Dr. Paul R. Naumann, officiating. Interment will take place in Portage Central Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., on Monday from 6-8 PM and on Tuesday at the church beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Michael Lutheran Church Trust Fund.
