Van Dyke, Jack L.
of Portage, Michigan Jack passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013 at Borgess Gardens in Kalamazoo. He was born on December 13, 1922 in Grand Rapids, one of three children to the late Louis and Emma Vrana Van Dyke. Jack was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. On August 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former C. Ruth Butkiewicz. Jack was employed by The Upjohn Co. for 28 years until his retirement. Surviving are three sons, Jack Glenda Van Dyke of Lansing, Mark Patricia Van Dyke of Mattawan, and Terry Margie Van Dyke, of Salisbury, MD; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 63 years, Ruth Van Dyke; sister, Ruth Rich; and brother, Willis Van Dyke. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, Oct. 17, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Private interment will be in South Portage Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Tin Can Sailors.
