Of Kalamazoo Went to be with the Lord, Thursday evening, November 14, 2013. Marv was born March 24, 1924 in Kalamazoo the son of the late John and Tina Dykstra Vlietstra. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement Marv was a co-owner with his brothers in the Vlietstra Bros. Pool Company. He was a charter member of the Westwood Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the first class to graduate from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1941. On December 6, 1946 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of nearly 67 years, the former Sinnie Triemstra, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Sally Vlietstra; grand-daughter, Lindsey Vlietstra; great-grand-child, Alyssa Tucker; brother, Hollis Donna Vlietstra; sister-in-law, Bettie Vlietstra; and many special nieces and nephews. Marv was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Vlietstra; and sister-in-law, Annette Vlietstra. A service to celebrate Marv's life will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday at the Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northhampton. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5-8pm at the church and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment will be held at 10:00am Thursday in Ft. Custer National Cemetery meet in assembly at 9:50. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Westwood Christian Reformed Church Building Fund or the Kalamazoo Christian School Association.
