FOX, MR. J. WARREN
Kalamazoo Passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009. Mr. Fox was born August 11, 1918 in Pendleton, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman L. Fox in 1961 and his mother, Louisa M. Detraz Fox who passed away in 1967. Mr. Fox was reared in historical, Vevay, Indiana, and had been a resident of Kalamazoo since 1961. He served in World War II as a Captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army. He was educated at and a graduate of Indiana University. He retired from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1992 after serving for 17 years as an instructor in the Business Department and was granted Emeritus status. He was a member of the Indiana University Alumni Club of Southwest Michigan, the Kalamazoo Board of Realtors during the 25 years he was active in Real Estate, the Acacia Fraternity and was a past- president of the Wabash Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Wabash Rotary Club. He was in the retail business in Wabash, Indiana for several years. Mr. Fox was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church. On December 19, 1942, he was married to Mary Susan Schmalz, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Susan Ermatinger and her husband Peter, and 3 grandchildren: Rita Marie, Elyse Ann, and Brian Lee Ermatinger and a great-granddaughter, Abigail, all of Evart, Michigan; and a brother, Newell D. Fox of Louisville, Kentucky; a nephew, Dr. William J. Schmalz of Bloomington, Indiana; a god-daughter, Kimberly Ann Schmalz Ochsenschlager of Hinsdale, Illinois; and several nieces and cousins. Services will be held at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, 622 S. Burdick St. on Tuesday at 2:00pm with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon of First United Methodist Church, Kalamazoo, MI and Rev. Keith Treman of First United Methodist Church, Portland, MI, officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may meet the family at the Burdick Street Chapel on Monday, from 6-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the KVCC Foundation or to the First United Methodist Church, Kalamazoo, MI. Please see
