BALDWIN, Mr. J. Marvin
Portage, MI Died Sunday morning June 7, 2009. J. Marvin was born June 5, 1917 in Marion, Indiana a son of Thomas and Nina Pogue Baldwin. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 40 years, before retiring. He was also a member of the Portage First United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering with the Salvation Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy L. Baldwin on May 9, 1992; his son, J. Marvin Baldwin, Jr. in 2001; 8 brothers, Mert, Gerald, Eugene, Donald, Bobbie, Marion, Tom, and Paul; 2 sisters, Mary and Virginia "Leona". On November 26, 1998, he was united in marriage to Valeria J. Adams-Nielsen Baldwin who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, Carol Baldwin of Kalamazoo, William Becky Baldwin of Kalamazoo, Mary Douglas Sleeman of Indianapolis, IN, and Gayle Donald Pasik of Palm Harbor, FL; a daughter-in-law, Alice Baldwin of Saginaw, MI; 3 step children, Marie John Elverum of Woodbury, MN, Jann Pat Nielsen of Collegeville, PA, and Carolyn Webb of Mishawaka, IN; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jackie Bambacht of Portage; a sister-in-law, Donna Baldwin of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Saturday at the Portage First United Methodist Church, 8740 S. Westnedge Ave. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Portage First United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
