BOWEN, Mrs. Ilah W.
Kalamazoo, MI Ilah died peacefully early Friday morning, May 15, 2009, at Kairos Dwelling. She was born March 20, 1909, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Oren and Belle Lawver Snyder and had been a life long area resident. Ilah graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1927. She was an active volunteer at the Comstock Community Center for over 25 years. In 1929, Ilah was united in marriage with Bernard "Buck" Bowen, who preceded her in death on June 10, 1970. Ilah was also preceded in death by: a daughter, Marilyn Vandenberg; a son, Franklin Bowen; a son-in-law, Gene Vandenberg and a sister, Virginia Snyder. Surviving are: her "adopted daughter", Nancy Vandenberg of Comstock; three grandchildren, Cathleen Terry Herr of South Haven, Rebecca Michael Herington of Scotts and Gene "Bud" Vandenberg, II, of Schoolcraft; six great-grandchildren, Richard Lisa Herr, Donald "Butch" Heidi VanOrman, II, Amanda Nathan Miller, Cara Vandenberg, Paul Voss and William Voss, Jr.; and five great-great-grandchildren, Joey Herr, Morgan Herr, KaSandra Miller, Dustin Voss and Halie Voss. Cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or service. Private inurnment will be held in Prairieville Cemetery. Ilah's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Kairos Dwelling, 2945 Gull Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
