of Portage Passed away, Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Harp was born August 13, 1920 in Nashville, TN a son of the late Hugh D Sr., and Lavena Boring Harper. He was united in marriage to Louise Rose, a nurse, on April 17, 1943, for a loving 64 years. Harp was in his 3rd year of college at the University of Georgia until called up to serve his country. He served in the U. S. Army for 4 years until honorably discharged. Among his service decorations, Harp received the Bronze Star. He was always very active in many facets of his community as attested by his serving as Chairman of the local Red Cross and the March of Dimes. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Portage Library. He was also well-known to have a great love for his Cocker Spaniels. Surviving Harp is his wife, Louise; very special friends, his ?adopted? sons, Harry Griego and Brian Wrozek. Preceding him in death was his brother, William Harper. No visitation is scheduled. A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be published. Arrangements are by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., Portage.
