DEWITT, Howard E.
of Kalamazoo Died April 4, 2013. Howard was born January 29, 1930 in Fort Scott, Kansas to the late Jacob and Mildred Behrend Dewitt. After graduation from Sturgis High School class of '47, he served in the U.S. Navy for nearly 4 years until he was honorably discharged in December of 1954. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired after nearly 35 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Paw Paw where he served as both deacon and treasurer. He loved his relationships with his family and friends. It was known he didn't miss an opportunity for a meal and good conversation with the "Breakfast Club", "Lunch with Friends" or his other close friends. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed any sport with a ball. Howard is survived by his children, Nancy Doug Nord of Kalamazoo and Dan Kris Dewitt of State College, PA; grandchildren, Lindsay Craig Cleary, Nate Heemstra and Jonathan Nord; sister, Marge McKee; ex-wife and friend, Sis Dewitt; many cousins and close friends. Howard is preceded in death by 2 children, Bobby Dewitt and Jim Dewitt; and brother-in-law, John McKee. Family will greet friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A funeral service will take place at Tuesday, 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church of Paw Paw, 120 Pine St., with Rev.Dr. Richard C. Cushnie officiating. Following a luncheon, a burial will take place at Forest Grove Cemetery, Zeeland. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church Lunch with Friends or to the American Diabetes Association.
