Passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 31, 2009, in Las Vegas. Dave was born July 14, 1928, in Kalamazoo, the son of Martin and Zelma Robinson Davis. From 1946-47, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy and then served in the Navy Reserve for 37 years. For 20 years he was employed with the Brown Company, and then retired after 20 years with General Motors. He was a member of the Red Arrow VFW Post; Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. On March 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Tanner Grimm who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Sharon James Owen of Portage; grandchildren, Jacqueline Mark Gregg and Gregory Owen; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Carissa, Alec and Hayden; step-children, Jerry Jody Grimm of Missouri, Sandra Paul Boulanger of California; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Jacob Wolthuis of Portage; step-brother, Michael Cheryl Davis of Kalamazoo, step-sister, Rosalie Eugene Cook of Houston, TX; step-mother, Anne Davis; brother-in-law, Pat Powers; several nieces and nephews and his former wife, Clara MaGuffey. Preceding Dave in death were his parents and a sister, Sandra Powers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. where a service to celebrate Dave's life will be held 10:30 AM Thursday. Interment with full military honors will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Dave's memory may be directed to the American Heart Association. www.langelands.com
