VANDERVEEN, Miss Hermina
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Hermina passed away Friday evening, January 23, 2009, at Park Place Assisted Living. A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, she was born July 21, 1913, in Kalamazoo, and was the daughter of the late Garrett and Stella Veldt VanderVeen. A graduate of Parson's Business College, she was employed by The Upjohn Company for 38 years until her retirement in 1965. Miss VanderVeen was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church and Heritage Christian Reformed Church where she regularly attended Bible study. She was also a member of the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society and enjoyed playing the organ and piano. Surviving are 1 nephew, David Judy Werkman of Kalamazoo; 1 great-nephew, Kevin Werkman of Kalamazoo, and 1 great-niece, Tammy John DeVries of Lansing, IL. Preceding her in death are a sister and brother-in-law, Wea and Onno Werkman; 3 additional sisters, Anna, Tillie, and Angie VanderVeen; and a great-niece, Heather Werkman. Funeral services for Miss VanderVeen will be at 11:00 AM on Monday tomorrow at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th Street, with Rev. Simon Tuin officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-5 PM on Sunday today at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Park Village Pines - Resident's Assistance Fund or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
