DE VISSER, Henry
of Park Village Pines Henry De Visser, age 93, went home to be with his Lord on August 22, 2012. Henry was born December 29, 1918, in Kalamazoo, the son of Bastain and Nellie Van Gemert De Visser and has been a lifelong resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WW II from 1941-45 and had served in the South Pacific. Henry was co-founder and owner of De Visser Landscape Services for many years prior to his retirement. He had served on the board of Michigan Nursery & Landscape Association, member and past president of Southwest Michigan Landscape Association, and served on the boards of Kalamazoo Christian School and Park Village Pines. Henry was a member of the Covenant United Reformed Church. On November 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Martha Slater De Visser, who preceded him in death on July 16, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joe and Adrian De Visser. Surviving are three children, Jan Post of Kalamazoo, Donald Pamela De Visser of Portland, OR and David Joan De Visser of Schoolcraft; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Abraham De Visser and John Alberta De Visser; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 26th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, August 27th at Covenant United Reformed Church with Rev. Steve Slater officiating. A private family interment with full military honors will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Henry's memory may be directed to Covenant United Reformed Church or Park Village Pines.
