MEJEUR, Mr. Henry J.
Kalamazoo, MI Henry John Mejeur, age 86, went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, December 21, 2012, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born October 22, 1926, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Jacob and Elsie Schipper Mejeur and had been a lifelong area resident. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School and Kalamazoo Vocational School. During WWII, Henry served in the US Marine Corps in the Asiatic, Pacific Areas before returning home to Kalamazoo. Henry was a member of Community Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years. He was the owner of Alphenaar and Mejeur Painting and Decorating Company and never really retired. He enjoyed keeping busy with his work and loved to help people improve their homes and businesses. He and his wife took time away to travel extensively. Henry was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters and their husbands, Rena and Albert Rhem and Trena and Matthew Onderlinde; a brother, John Mejeur; a granddaughter, Joanna Kauk and a great-grandson Emmanuel Funk. On April 19, 1950, Henry was united in marriage with the former Frances Alphenaar, who survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Ann David Kauk of Saronville, NE and Jane David Short of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Emily Nick Mouw, Nathan Blaire Kauk, Sarah Kauk, Lynnelle Nathan Funk and Elizabeth Short; five great-grandchildren, Austin and Chase Mouw, Brynnleigh Kauk, and Noah, Joysan & Jonathan Funk; four brothers, Uko Johanna Mejeur, Wubbo Alene Mejeur, Jerry Betty Mejeur and Ebo Lori Mejeur; a sister, Margaret John VanderPloeg; sister-in-law Dorothy Mejeur; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held 3:00 Thursday afternoon at Community Presbyterian Church, 2131 Alamo Ave., with Pastor Tim Bero, officiating. Private graveside services with military honors will be held in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials should be directed to Community Presbyterian Church, Park Village Pines or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
