of Portage, MI Henry was taken to be with his Lord, Friday evening September 4, 2009. He was born July 4, 1927, in Portage, the son of Arie & Alice Kiel and had been a life long resident of Portage. He was a member of the Kalamazoo Protestant Reformed Church. On February 1, 1950 he was united in marriage to Muriel J. Alphenaar who preceded in death in 2004. He was also preceded by his parents; his brothers John and Don and sisters Jesse, Berdina, Anna Jean. Surviving are 5 children, Kathleen Thomas Verbeek, Barbara Jeffrey Steenholdt, Thomas Marcia Kiel, all of Kalamazoo, Sandra Kiel of Portage, Daniel Debra Kiel of Kalamazoo; 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Trena VanderRoest, Irene Garret Mejeur of Portage, Arthur Carol Kiel of Kalamazoo, Alfred Pat Kiel of Sherwood, Betty Richard Hoorn, Ruth Sparks of Portage, Robert Carroll Kiel of Kalamazoo, Dorothy Larry Barker of Odessa, Missouri and a sister-in-law Martha Kiel of Portage; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Wednesday at the Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane with Rev. Audred Spriensma officiating. Private interment will be in Mt Everest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family from 4-8pm on Tuesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Protestant Reformed Church or the Reformed Heritage Christian School. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Bronson North Campus, Third Floor for the loving care given to their father.
