DE HAAN, Mr. Henry J. Mattawan Passed away Wednesday evening, October 25, 2006, in Kalamazoo. Henry was born August 6, 1932, in Portage Township a son of Sam and Ellen Andersen De Haan. He grew up on a farm in Minnesota and returned to this area as a young man and moved to Mattawan in 1968. Henry was employed by the Portage Public Schools for over 24 years, working at all of their facilities as a custodian and maintenance person. Henry was also an active member of Fourth Reformed Church and often worked behind the scenes as a handyman. He loved his family and especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Henry also enjoyed working at home, taking care of his lawn, garden and feeding the birds. Henry was preceded in death by his parents. On July 8, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Bonnie Harlan, who survives. Also surviving are: a son, Peter Candy De Haan of Mattawan; a daughter, Patti Wolff of Mattawan; 4 grandchildren, Laura De Haan of South Haven and Dan De Haan, Jessica Wolff and Cody Wolff, all of Mattawan; a sister, Dorothy Ed Dotson; 2 nephews, Rex and Terry Dotson; and a niece, Karen Dotson and her husband, Allen Cook. Services will be held 11:00 Monday morning at Fourth Reformed Church, 6339 Atlantic, with the Rev. Jonathan Lam of First Congregational Church in Mattawan, officiating. Private burial in Hope Cemetery will be held later. Friends and family will gather for visitation on Saturday from 6-8pm and on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. The family has designated the Memorial Fund of Fourth Reformed Church for memorial contributions.
