Henrietta Atkins Smith was born July 13, 1935, in Arkansas. She died August 15, 2021, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born to Edward and Effie Atkins (Burns). Henrietta worked at Michigan Food Cannery, Benson Food Services and Walmart. She also worked in Food Service for Benton Harbor Public Schools. She was a very active member as a usher of Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ for 40 years. She moved to Kalamazoo with her daughter, Denise, where she began attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church until God called her home.
Henrietta leaves to mourn four sons, Stanley (Daisy) Atkins of Kalamazoo, MI, Thomas Scott, Henry Scott, and Theodore Heggler of Benton Harbor, MI; five daughters, Juanita Atkins and Kimberly Heggler of Benton Harbor, MI, Denise (Harold) Yancey-Elliott of Kalamazoo, MI, Patricia Scott of Marietta, GA, and Vanessa Heggler of South Bend, IN; an aunt, Annie Ruth Linzy of Canton, OH; a brother, Jessie (Edwina) Atkins of Benton Harbor, MI; two sisters, Eddie Mae Atkins of Kalamazoo, MI, and Barbara Jett of New Jersey; one brother-in-law, Johnny Ward of Benton Harbor, MI; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Smith; son, Sam Fredrick Heggler; granddaughter, Latrica Brooks; grandson, Stanley Perry; great-grandson, Lonnie Phipps; nephew, Robert Hubbard; eight brothers, Joe Lee, Eddie, Monroe, Booker T, Roosevelt, Alonzo, Sunry, and Sporty Boy Atkins; four sisters, Bonnie Hubbard, Pearl Coleman, Marlene, and Martha Nell Atkins; and her parents, Edward Atkins and Effie Burns.
