Formerly of Kalamazoo Helena Malbone died Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Three Rivers, MI. She was born December 25, 1907, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a daughter of Pieter and Trintje Guesebroek Knaap. When Helena was five years old her family came to Holland, MI, and she moved to Kalamazoo in 1931. She attended Hope College and Western State Teachers College and was employed by the Upjohn Company until her retirement in 1971. Following her retirement she moved to Florida. Helena was a member of First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo and later a member of First Baptist Church of Bradenton. On July 6, 1932, Helena was united in marriage with Howard Malbone, who preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a great-great-grandson, Elijah and by a son-in-law, Charles Bower. Helena is survived by: two daughters, Virginia Faulkner of Vicksburg and Mary Larry Bogema of Byron Center; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. No public visitation will be held. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, with the Rev. James Dyke, officiating. A memorial service will be announced later.
