Helen Mable (Lozier) Williams of Kalamazoo, MI, formerly of Warsaw, IN, Michigan City, IN, Fairport, NY, and Pittsford, NY, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, February 3, 2024. She was 97 years old.
Helen was the first child of eight, born December 26, 1926, to Harry Kermit Lozier and Bertha Fearl (Snell) Lozier in Warsaw, IN. Helen grew up in Warsaw with her brothers and sister on the family farm and graduated from Leesburg High School in 1945. She went on to study education and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in 1954 at Manchester College. She furthered her education and received her Masters's Degree of Science in Education and a Guidance Supervisor's Certificate in 1960 at Indiana University. During this time she worked both as a teacher and guidance counselor in Michigan City, IN.
While living there, she met David Alan Williams, and they married on November 24, 1960. Dave and Helen enjoyed exploring on Dave's boat, antiquing, gardening, and rock collecting. In 1964, they adopted their daughter Lori Williams Bender (Ron Bender) and completed their family by adopting Erik Williams (Aarti Williams) in 1965.
Dave and Helen enjoyed traveling the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, photography, nature, animals, and plants. Helen was known for her green thumb and continued her floriculturist skills throughout her life. Helen's love of antiques brought Dave and Helen into owning their own antique business later on in life which allowed them to travel the country and cultivate a network of friends. Her love for animals and birds was evident in her support of wildlife causes and her own bird and animal feeder sanctuary in her yard. Helen was an avid college basketball fan who enjoyed bantering about the teams, especially with her grandchildren. Finally, her joy in her church and sharing her faith and love of people near and far, especially the indigenous culture she and Dave supported, was constantly evidenced in her conversations and her giving.
Feisty, independent, and a tireless worker, Helen's legacy is her children and grandchildren and the lessons in perseverance she taught them. Throughout her entire life, she selflessly served and cared for others. She is survived by brother Don Lozier (Miné Lozier) and sister-in-law Christine Lozier Haney; children Lori & Erik, grandchildren Zachary, Ethan (Caitlin) & Emma Preuss, Indranee & Neel Williams; great-grandchildren Beckham & Holland Preuss; and her cat Lily. She is predeceased by her husband, siblings Dean, Bob (Jean), John, Joe (Norma), Retha (Carl Hudson), and Carl Lozier.
