VANSWEDEN, Helen C.
of Portage Helen was born October 19, 1927, in Grand Haven, Michigan, and passed away May 31, 2011, in Portage, MI. She was a longtime Portage area resident who was employed as a registered nurse and stomal therapist at Bronson Methodist Hospital for many years prior to her retirement. Helen was an active member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Throughout the years Helen was very active in Bronson and church activities, but the most important part of her life was spending time with her family and friends. On July 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Edward VanSweden, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gertrude Moll and Leona Lutz and a brother, Norman Moll. Surviving are three sons, Daniel Lynn VanSweden, Douglas VanSweden and David Barbara VanSweden; four grandchildren, Julie Keith Baird, Lisa Brian Ladd, Kyle VanSweden and Justin VanSweden; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Allison Lindenbach, Cody and Austin Ladd; a brother, Donald Moll and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church 9420 Portage Rd. with Pastor Joan Herbon officiating. Interment will be in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials in Helen�s memory may be directed to Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
