SKINNER, Helen E. Of Portage Passed away Tuesday evening, July 17, 2007. Helen was born September 7, 1922 in Sturgis, Kentucky the daughter of Thomas and Mary Nesbitt Bean. She worked as a waitress at various places which included the Gull Harbor Inn, Inmans, Corsiglias, Airway Lanes, and the Beacon Club. Helen owned the Lobby Snack Bar for several years and retired from Western Michigan University where she worked in the Dietary Department for 15 years. She enjoyed bingo, puzzles, helping others and socializing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of the Portage Eagles. On September 29, 1956 she was united in marriage to Richard Skinner who preceded her in death on June 11, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Bean. Surviving are 5 children, Gloria Jerry Iversen, Richard Millie Figurin, Mary Figurin, Shelley John Fleming, Robin VerHage; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:00 o?clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Portage Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
