SIMON, Helen Ann
of Portage, Michigan Helen passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 31, 2012 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. She was born April 9, 1929 in Great Neck, Long Island, New York. She is the daughter of John and Josephine Idol, who are deceased, and the sister of Constance Simon, who resides in North Carolina. Helen Simon was united in marriage to Thomas J. Simon on August 12, 1950. Helen and Tom who survives her have five children, Ann Trevino Ray, Thomas Simon Amy, Michael, Daniel Julie, Dennis Ingrid; five grandchildren, Jesse Lambdin Eunice, Gail Towne Scott, Jessica Bell Nate, Daniel Jr. Simon and Christopher Trevino; and five great-grandchildren. Helen loved to sing, go to the theatre and bowl. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed reading mysteries. She also loved playing trivia games and studying history. Helen had a great sense of humor, was a compassionate listener and animated story-teller. Helen's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and her family will carry her Thanksgiving tradition on in her honor. Helen attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, volunteered in their food pantry and sang in the choir. Helen was also a member of Al-Anon for many years. Helen was a loving mother to all of her children and a wonderful wife to her husband, Tom. She was the heart of the Simon family and she will be greatly missed. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Sunday with a rosary at 7:30 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street, with Msgr. Michael Hazard celebrant. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
