formerly of Baltimore, MD Passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Upjohn Community Care Center. Age 94 years. Helen had resided at Upjohn Community Care Center for the past 8 years, where the staff had taken excellent care of her. She was born September 1, 1918 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Augustine Rolek. She worked for Koppers Company in Baltimore, where she made couplings for the Liberty Ships and other military vehicles that were used during World War II. She then worked for Hutzlers Department Store and the Maryland Cup Company. After retirement, she did artistic work on life size animal models, which were sold to large department stores. She was married to Sidney Henkel in 1938; he preceded her in death on November 8, 1996. Surviving are her daughter, Andrea Jeffrey Lobel of Texas Township; three grandchildren, Gabriel Laura Lobel of Philadelphia, PA, Rachel Lobel and Nicholas Lobel both of Kalamazoo; two great-grandchildren, Dillan and Camryn Lobel; three sisters, Hedwig Rolek of Baltimore, MD, Amelia Lynch of Clearwater, FL and Anne Ralph Mattox of Clearwater, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Rolek; and her sister, Theresa Sweeney. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue, Portage, MI. Fr. Robert Creagan will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 2:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. They may also visit with the family at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of mass on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Upjohn Community Care Center, Helen Henkel Memorial Fund.
