BOS, Hazel E.
of Portage Hazel Blakely Bos only daughter of Norman and Lera Foght Blakely went to be with her heavenly Father on May 7, 2011. Hazel was born April 28, 1922 in Alma, MI, and moved to Kalamazoo at an early age. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1940 and the Kalamazoo Practical Nursing program in 1945 in the 3rd class of Practical Nursing in Kalamazoo. Hazel was employed by Borgess Medical Center for 30 years working in several nursing areas mainly Urology. She retired from Borgess in 1987. Hazel was a longtime member of the Fourth Reformed Church serving as the first female Elder. She was manager of the Borgess Thrift Shop for many years, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Widow and Widowers organization. Hazel had acquired an extensive bell collection contributed to by family and friends in their travels. She enjoyed traveling, visiting most of the United States including Hawaii, Alaska and also the Holy Land. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Henry G. Bos who preceded her in death on July 22, 1970. She was also preceded in death by all four of her brothers, Rev. Harold, Hale, Herb and Clare Blakely and by her son, James N. Bos. Surviving are a son and two daughters, Mary Bos, Tom Deb Bos and Pat Sterling Weatherwax; a daughter-in-law, Diana Bos; eight grandchildren, Tim Terra Bos, Matt April Bos, Joel Renee' Lamb, Megan Jeff Belew, Carynn Lara, Thomas Bos, Katie Tyink, Holly Weatherwax; great-grandchildren, Tayler, Katie, Hailey, Ryan Bos, Nicole Harold Rothman, Clark Lamb, Isabel, Genavieve, Hunter Belew, Michael Lara, Jude Tyink; sisters-in-law, Bertha Bos, Lucille Blakely, Betty Blakely, Joy Blakely and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A private family interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery beside her husband and son on Wednesday morning. Following the committal service the family will receive friends at Fourth Reformed Church 6339 Atlantic Ave. from 11 AM to 12 Noon Wednesday where a Memorial Service to celebrate Hazel's life will begin at 12:00 Noon Wednesday.
