SEILHEIMER, Harvey Frank
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Harvey Frank Seilheimer, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. He was born February 4, 1920, on the family farm in Lee Township, Allegan County, MI., the son of Frank and Elizabeth Ramming Seilheimer and moved to Kalamazoo in 1926 and called it home for the rest of his life. When Harvey was eight years old, he began his working career helping in the "Normal Gardens" at Western State Normal School WMU. At the age of 13, he managed two paper routes for the Kalamazoo Gazette and maintained a professional relationship with the paper for the next 50 years. In 1938, he was a proud graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and in that same years began work at the Kalamazoo Gazette as a photoengraver. He spent the rest of his working life at the Gazette and for most of this time, he was the head of the engraving department. He took great pride in the fact that his department never missed a deadline throughout his entire career. His department successfully implemented every technological change and met every challenge - including printing the first color photograph in the Booth newspaper chain's history. Early in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served until October of 1945. He spent 19 months overseas with the 8th Air Force, 556th Signal A. W. BN. In the summer of 1945, he met the love of his life, Katherine Rounsavall. They married in Little Rock, AR, on July 11, 1946. During this past summer, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Harvey is survived by his wife and three children; Randy Donna Seilheimer of Vicksburg, MI, Susan Reg Iervolina of Kalamazoo and Thomas Nancy Seilheimer of St. Clair, MI. Harvey also loved his six grandchildren, Mike Audrey Seilheimer, David Jodie Seilheimer, Carrie James Curry, Sherry Tim Knoper, Franklin Trenna Seilheimer, and Nora Seilheimer; six great grandchildren, Lucas Seilheimer, Henry Seilheimer, Avery Seilheimer, Kendall Seilheimer, Quinn Seilheimer, Andrew Curry, Cheyanne Knoper and Jessica Hall. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Earl Seilheimer and sisters, Helen Brant, Elyra Cooley and Erma Smith. Harvey enjoyed just about everything life had to offer. Whether he was playing golf with his brothers, Art and Earl a 22 year tournament tradition, traveling with his wife, spending special winters in Florida, watching Pistons basketball, fishing with friends and family or cheering on his entire brood in any activity they might be involved in, he was always there, giving his family his full loving support. Harvey was a Charter member of the Kalamazoo Valley Craftsman Club and a member of VFW Post 1527, Kalamazoo. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 3-7 PM. Interment, with full Military Honors, will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Loaves & Fishes or to the V.F.W. Post #1527, Portage.
