Kalamazoo Passed away on November 10, 2007. Harry was born August 19, 1939 in Akron, OH to James and Otha Mathews. He graduated from Hower Vocational High School where he majored in art. After graduation, Harry served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning, he married Margaret Powell and started his family and soon relocated to Michigan where he attended Moody Bible Institute in Grand Rapids. Harry worked at General Motors for 27 years where he met and married Mae Mathews 29 years. Among his many interests was studying the Bible, Science and Astronomy. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the ?Ohio State Buckeyes?. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Howard Garrett; sisters Gloria Johnson and Barbara Gibbons; brother-in-law David Loftin; nephew Shaun Junius and special daughter Lena Mathews. Harry is survived by his wife Mae Mathews of Kalamazoo; sons Harry Cynthia Mathews, II of Kalamazoo, James Mathews II of Lincoln, NE and Darrick Wright of Kalamazoo; daughters Alia Stan Henderson of Atlanta, GA, Syncerae Mathews and Sheila Mathews of Kalamazoo, Shelly Steve Johnson of Cleveland, OH, Loraine Jesse Langston, EddieMae Wright, MeShell Claude Dandridge and adopted grand-daughter Maenesia Mathews, all of Kalamazoo; brothers David Candy Mathews of Jackson, MI, James Connie Mathews, twin brother Walter Mathews, and Harold Garrett, all of Akron, OH; sisters Otha Loftin, Marilyn Henry Oliver and Una Tyrone Riley, all of Akron, OH; special grand-daughter Jayme ?Toot? Ford of Kalamazoo; special brother-in-law Robert Lee Johnson of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many, many friends. Family hour will be on Monday, November 19 from 12 to 1 pm with a ?Going Home Service? at 1 pm at the Christian Life Center, 1225 W. Paterson St. with Pastor Steve Griffin officiating.
