Of Kalamazoo, MI Mrs. Harriet J. Smith passed away Sunday night, October 11, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born March 20, 1926 in Kalamazoo, daughter of the late John, Sr. and Elsie Doorlag Van Den Berg. Harriet was employed by the Klosterman Co. as an administrative clerk for many years. She was also employed by Lifetouch NSS. Harriet was an active member of Trinity Reformed Church. On June 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Frederick Smith in Kalamazoo, who preceded her in death in March of 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon John Rounds of Kalamazoo and Susan Paul MacDonald of Grandville; five grandchildren, John Leeann Rounds, Jeff Rounds, Sarah Rounds, Beth MacDonald and Kirk MacDonald; a great-grandson, Travis Rounds; sisters, Grace Tom VanderWeele, Gertrude Ken Scott, Johanna Herman Schrueder, Alice Henry Van Beck and Carol John Nord; brother, John Jan Van Den Berg, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Trinity Reformed Church, 326 W. Cork Street, with Rev. Jacques Nel officiating. Luncheon to follow. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 6 - 8:00PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or Trinity Reformed Church Bus Fund.
