Harold J. Vlietstra

Passed away Saturday evening, November 11, 2023 due to a car accident together with his wife, Mary (DeDoes) Vlietstra. Harold was born May 3, 1935 in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Jessie (Westerhof) Vlietstra. He worked for Balkema Inc./AZO for 57 years. Harold was a member of Texas Corners Bible Church, where he  served as a Deacon. He was a former member of Covenant United Reformed Church and Grace Christian Reformed Church. He loved and was devoted to his Lord, family and church. He was a faithful servant all his life. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with traveling and photography. He served on the Board at MRC Industries. On July 19, 1957 Harold was united in marriage to Doris (Hoeksema) who preceded him in death on November 22, 2020. Together they had 5 children who survive, Julie (Chuck) Geenen, Marsha (Roger) Tuinier, Jim Vlietstra, Shelly (Doug) Bartman, Carrie (Mike) Mundy; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Janice (Dennis) VanDenBerg, Paul (Phyllis) Vlietstra, Ray (Linda) Vlietstra, Allen (Robin) Vlietstra; sister-in-law, Betty Vlietstra; Mary’s children; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers and sister, Donald, Betty (Don) Leep, Glenn, and Clarence (Joann). On April 7, 2023 Harold was united in marriage to Mary DeDoes. They were happily married for 7 months until the Lord took them home to Heaven. Friends may meet the family from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, November 17 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9^th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and from 11:00am-12:00pm Saturday November 18 at the Texas Corners Bible Church, 7780 South 8^th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 where funeral services will be held at 12:00pm. Private interment will be in Roof Cemetery in Charleston Township. Memorials may be directed to Texas Corners Bible Church or MRC Industries.
