HANSELMAN, Harold G. "Bud"
of Kalamazoo Bud died Sunday evening, November 20, 2011 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. He was born February 14, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI, son of Harold and Teresa Gilligan Hanselman and had been a life long area resident. After graduating from State High, Bud entered the US Army where he flew 21 combat missions as a radio/gunner on a B-25 from the Island of Attu in the Aleutian Islands. After serving his country, Bud returned home and graduated from Western Michigan University. Harold had a long career in the paper business, selling packaging for Michigan Carton Co. in Battle Creek. Bud had many passions including fishing, gardening, cooking and playing the piano. He was an animal lover and a kind and generous man. Everyone loved Bud Hanselman. Bud was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kalamazoo Country Club, Music Meister's and an Emeritus board member of The Gilmore Keyboard Festival. Bud also volunteered for the past 9 years as the piano player with Ministry with Community. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William and a brother, Stephen. Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, the former Susan Taylor; three daughters, Jane Hanselman of Kalamazoo, Maridee Hanselman of Kalamazoo and Salle Hanselman Susan Canzoneri of Oakland, CA; three grandchildren, Stacy from Oakland, CA, and Garrett and Evan Wenger both of Kalamazoo; and a sister, Ann & Ed Ihling of Richland. Cremation has taken place. A family inurnment service will be held in Mountain Home Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, 312 W. South St., with The Rev. Dr. Seth Weeldreyer, officiating. Memorials should be directed to Ministry with Community, Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or The Gilmore.
