GARNAAT, HAROLD E.
OF Kalamazoo Harold Edwin Garnaat, age 65, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 in Kalamazoo. Harold was born May 5, 1948 in Kalamazoo, the son of Russell and Melia Verkow Garnaat and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central H.S. and was employed with the City of Kalamazoo Public Utilities for over 29 years. He also owned and operated Garnaat's Window Cleaning and was employed for many years with Mall City Pride Care Ambulance and Langeland Family Funeral Homes. Harold was well known in the community for his dedicated service and unending contributions to our community. He volunteered whenever and wherever he could with groups such as: Great Lakes Burn Camp, Pride Care Ambulance "Home for the Holidays" and "Holiday Light Tours", American Red Cross and numerous fund raisers for those in need. On December 8, 2002, he was united in marriage to Vicki Sootsman Garnaat, who survives. Also surviving are his step-children, Hayley French Colin Klett, Tracey Matthew Klok and Dan French Kailey Baldwin; step-grandchildren, Dylan, Ruthie, Brody and Madisyn; siblings, Ruth Charles Scheltens, Bette William Powell, Sharon Dale Pickett, Russell Jackie Garnaat, Jr, Priscilla Jack Followell, Kenneth Gladys Garnaat, James Carol Garnaat and Albert Garnaat; many nieces and nephews and a host of his special family and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; by two sisters, Patricia John and Ernestine Garnaat; and by a nephew Christopher Garnaat. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7th from 3-7 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Service to Celebrate Harold's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8th at Haven Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Great Lakes Burn Camp or to the family.
