Harmon Paul Hazell was born November 30, 1925, in Kalamazoo, the son of Alfred and Genevieve Putman Hazell and died July 7, 2010, in Kalamazoo. He was a lifelong area resident who had served in the U.S. Army 103rd Infantry during WW II, and was decorated with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Paul was employed for 37 years as a pipe fitter with James River, retiring in 1987. For many years Paul served as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #243. He was a member of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church and a former member of the VFW and American Legion. Paul enjoyed golfing, yard work, traveling, camping and was past president and member of the Kalamazoo Campers. On April 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia DeSmit and they had just celebrated their 60th anniversary. Surviving are his wife Patricia; their children, Linda Edwin Craft of Lawton, Ronald Key of Mattawan, Deborah Perk of Vicksburg and Anthony Gathel Hazell of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Dollahan of Kalamazoo; nieces and nephews. Preceding Paul in death were his parents; two sisters, Ardith Hazell and Lois Holland and a brother, Allen Hazell. The family will receive friends on Friday today from 11:00-12:30 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Street where a service to celebrate Paul's life will be held at 12:30 PM Friday with Pastor John Hetherington officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Ft.
