VELD, HARM
Harm Veld, age 96, passed away June 14, 2012 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Harm was born October 13, 1915 in Adrian, Minnesota, the son of Menno and Stella Wagner Veld. During World War II, he served for a short time in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime Cooper Township resident, and then was a resident at Gun Lake since 1977. Harm was employed with Standard Oil Co. and then Hercules, Inc. until his retirement in 1978. For many years he attended Yankee Springs Bible Church. On May 23, 1940, Harm was united in marriage to Gertrude Allen Veld who preceded him in death on December 16, 1994. He was also preceded in death by all of his siblings, Tena Braamklok, John, Melvin, Garret and Marion Veld. Surviving are four children, Shirley Charles Stanford of Thornton, CO, Patricia Wagenaar of Traverse City, Marilyn George Luedke of Surprise, AZ and Herman Linda Veld of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 17th TODAY from 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, where Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, June 18th with Pastor Donald DeYoung officiating. Interment will follow in East Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harm's memory may be directed to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
