CLINE, Harlan J.
of Kalamazoo Passed away May 19, 2011 at Friendship Village. He was born October 13, 1920 in Yorkville, MI to the late Roscoe and Mary Emmaline Ellis Cline. Harlan was united in marriage to Vivian Newbury in 1940, who preceded him in death in 1997. Harlan served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII until he was honorably discharged. He attended schools in Yorkville, Richland and Hickory Corners. He graduated from Argubright College in Battle Creek. He retired from the Michigan Treasury Department in 1984. He was an avid bowler and golfer. From his marriage with Vivian, 4 children were born who survive; Cheri Cline, Terrie Scott Gerger, James Cline and William Cline; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Munson, Nathan Danielle Gerger, Alicia Mark Van Maanen, Justin Medema and Micah Gerger; 1 great granddaughter, Ariana Van Maanen; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Harlan in death were, siblings, Raymond, Nathalie, Moneka and Johnny. A reception in honor of Harlan will be held Saturday, May 21st from 2pm to 4pm at Candlewood Suites, 3443 Retail Place Dr., Kalamazoo. Arrangements are by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in the summer. Memorials in Harlan's name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or a charity of one's choice.
