Hans Peter VanNeer

Hans Peter VanNeer of Portage, Michigan, passed away on December 15, 2023, at the age of 82. Hans was born in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, on November 24, 1941, to the late Eugene and Leonore (Surie) VanNeer and immigrated to Muskegon, Michigan, when he was 16 years old.

In 1963, Hans married Marilyn Vanderwater. They had two children, Monica Harris and Lauri Mak. Hans is survived by his wife; grandchildren, Scott Mak, Meaghan Evans, and Angie Harris; and a great-granddaughter, Rylee.

Hans worked a salesman for most of his life, retiring from the X-Ergon company. He was an avid photographer, often capturing amazing family moments, creating graduation portraits, and shooting weddings. In his younger years, he dedicated time to the Kalamazoo Jaycees with the goal of helping the community. Hans and Marilyn also enjoyed many years with their boat, which was docked on Lake Michigan in St. Joseph.
