COOK, Gwyneth Lorraine
Of Portage Gwen was born July 12, 1929, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Christian and Twilia Melching VanOoy; and died July 27, 2010, in Kalamazoo. She was a lifelong Portage area resident and had been employed with Portage Cleaners & Laundry for 27 years prior to her retirement. On April 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Fred Cook, Sr. who survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter, Thomas Becky Cook of Portage and Charlene Cook of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Amanda, Lacey, Alisha, Christian and Natalie Cook and Alicia Middaugh; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Hannah; a sister, Darlene Bogema; nieces and nephews. Preceding Gwen in death were her son, Fred Cook, Jr., her parents and two sisters, Loretta MacDonald and Barbara VanOoy. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 2 from 10-11 AM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre St., where a funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday with Pastor Philip Kok officiating. Following services cremation will take place and a burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.
