of Kalamazoo Gwen passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. She was born December 23, 1938 in Allegan, MI, the daughter of the late Samuel and Thelma Salters Howard. Gwen was employed by Kalamazoo State Hospital and Borgess Medical Center until her retirement. On October 23, 1965, she was united in marriage to Edgar C. Hackley, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1998. Surviving are her 4 children, Camille Ivy of Grand Rapids, Yvonne Ruffin of Kalamazoo Chris Salters of Kalamazoo and Steve Salters of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Marcus Spencer, Jasmine Ruffin, Nicholas Ruffin, Cameo Ivy, and William Ivy; 4 great-grandchildren, Jayla, Zanaiya, Armon, Isaiah; brother, James Salters of Gobles; sister, Ruth Simpson of Gobles; special friends, James Cummings of Kalamazoo and David Phillips of Grand Rapids; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services for Gwen will be at 12:00 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. William J. Wyne officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 AM - 12 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
