Formerly of Kalamazoo Died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday December 13, 2007 at Care Community Assisted Living Center in Springfield, MI., with her husband of 62 years by her side. Grace Powell Davis was born on December 9, 1926 in Constantine, MI. to Alma Harrod and James Powell. She soon moved to Kalamazoo and became a life long resident until 2004 when she and her husband moved to Springfield. As a resident of Kalamazoo?s East side, Grace was actively involved in her community and was a founding member of Kalamazoo?s Eastside Association. She was also a long time member of the Douglas Association and for many years was a 4-H leader teaching sewing and dance. She loved to bowl and golf, getting a ?hole in one? twice. For many years she was a child care provider and was affectionately known to many children as ?Nannie?. Grace was also an accomplished dress maker and worked for some years at Jacobson?s doing custom tailoring. She was also actively involved with the local schools and the Powell Branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library. While she was still able to do so, Grace would also drive her friends who could not drive, to any appointments or shopping that needed to be done. On March 21, 1945 she was united in marriage to Norman Neal Davis Jr. who survives. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Susan Ivans, and her daughter Grace Louise Davis. Besides her husband, Grace is survived by three children, Norman N. Sue Davis III of AZ, Walter W. Sheryle Davis of Bellevue, and James A. Davis of Grand Rapids, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held 1 o?clock Thursday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Powell Branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library in remembrance of Grace L. Davis or to the Alzheimer?s Association. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
