NEWHOUSE, Gordon Jacob
Kalamazoo Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gordon passed away at Rose Arbor on Sunday, March 22, 2009 with his family at his side. Gordon was born March 2, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of William and Cornelia Plantefaber Newhouse. Gordon graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School and served 1943-1946 as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. On July 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Virginia Bell Guyette. Gordon and Virginia owned and operated Newhouse Printers Supply, Inc. for over 45 years prior to retirement. Gordon was member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church and deeply loved his church family. Their love and support has been unfailing. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Geneve Newhouse Mein. Surviving are his wife and their sons, Edward Newhouse of Kalamazoo, Jay Newhouse and Barbara Glidden Newhouse of Portage, Matthew Newhouse of Ludington, William Newhouse and Rhonda Damstra Newhouse of Kalamazoo, and daughter-in-law Debbie Babcock Newhouse of Portage; grandchildren Joel Doorlag and Amy Newhouse Doorlag of Kalamazoo, Christopher Newhouse of Kalamazoo, Jerry Newhouse of College Station, Texas, Sgt. Joshua Newhouse - South Korea, Benjamin Newhouse of Kalamazoo, Jessica Newhouse of Portage, and Nicole Newhouse of Kalamazoo; two great-granddaughters; a brother Neil Newhouse and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Funeral services will take place 11:00 Thursday morning, March 26, 2009, at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr., Portage with Pastor Phil Kok officiating. Entombment in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial park will follow services and a luncheon.
