DOLBEE, Gordon Lee Roy
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Gordon Lee Roy Dolbee passed away May 7, 2013. He was born May 14, 1928 in Battle Creek, MI to Cletus Dolbee and Bernice Evans Dolbee. He graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1946 then went on to Kalamazoo College where he played tennis and graduated with a BA in 1950. On August 23, 1950 he married his college sweetheart Jean Louise Shivel and spent his next 63 years happily married. He was employed until his retirement by The Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo in their personnel and international divisions. He was active in many community organizations. He served as a trustee for Kalamazoo College from 1984-2002 and remained an active supporter of their sports program. He was honored with their distinguished alumni award and also bestowed the honor of emeritus trustee for life. He was an active member of the Kiwanas Club for over 30 years. He held numerous leadership roles at the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo. He was coach and volunteer to his sons' activities. He loved to fish, hunt and travel. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, John Tara and Tim Mary; grandchildren, Mark Vanessa, Kent Kara, Allison Todd Halonen, Brenda, Craig and 3 great grandchildren, Jordynn, Taylor and Madelyn. There will be a visitation at 9:30 AM preceding the funeral service, in lieu of a reception following. The funeral service will take place Saturday May 11th, 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, 315 W. Michigan Ave. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo or to Kalamazoo College Athletics Fund.
