VAN AVERY, Goldie B.
of Portage Passed away January 16, 2011 at home. She was born November 4, 1931 in Kalamazoo to the late Forrest and Pauline Walker Griffith. Goldie was married to Richard Van Avery, who preceded her in death in 1997. She loved camping at the Swan Lake campgrounds and decorating her yard for the holidays. Her hobbies were working with plastic canvas embroidery and painting by the numbers. Surviving Goldie are her children, Paula Thomas Frank Brindley of Kalamazoo, Marchelle Poe of Albertville, AL and John Avery of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; brother, Carl Griffith; sister, Blanche Beck; sisters-in-law, Mary and Rika Griffith; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Goldie in death was a son, Charles Robert Leroy Sanders, siblings Charles Griffith d, Walter Griffith d and Roseman Griffith d. No visitation is scheduled. Graveside services will take place Monday, January 24th, 1:00 o'clock at Maple Grove Cemetery in Comstock. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway. Per the family's request, in place of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of SW Michigan. Following the graveside services, a luncheon will be offered at the Comstock VFW.
