Gisela H. Zimmer

ZIMMER, Gisela H.
of Kalamazoo Passed away March 11, 2010 at Borgess Hospital. She was born March 14, 1924 in Liepaja, Latvia, to the late Paul and Agnes Ruppeik Demme. Gisela was united in marriage on December 1, 1949 to Harry Zimmer, who preceded her in death in January of 1990. Gisela ran her own ballet studio and also taught gymnastics. She gave German lessons and piano lessons and taught senior exercise for over 20 years at the Portage Senior Center. She spoke German, English and Latvian. She loved family, nature, classical music, life and people. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Surviving Gisela are her children, Roy Mary Zimmer of Wayland, MI and Vivian James Hayes of Plainwell; 5 grandchildren, Kyle Hibbard, Elissa Zimmer, Ben Zimmer, Ian Hayes and Cameron Hayes; 1 great granddaughter, Violet Zimmer; brother, Gunnar Demme; and sister, Agi Salomon; niece, Kirsten Rick Sarli; nephews, Nils Christina Demme and Jurgen Helga Salomon. A Memorial service will take place Saturday, 11:00 o'clock, at the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 Cherry Hill, Kalamazoo. Rev. Biruta Puike and Rev. Emily Haight will officiate service.
